What is Railway Maintenance

Railway maintenance mainly contains railway track maintenance and rail building conservation. Railway track maintenance means the repair and maintenance work on the roadbed, track and so on; and railway building conservation means the maintenance and repair work on railway bridges, tunnels and buildings, etc. 
Railway lines and buildings usually accounts for about 60% of the value of fixed assets of rail transport, is essential technical equipment for railway transport. To ensure the safe operation of trains according to a predetermined speed, all equipment should be kept in good condition. However, in use, a variety of equipment is often of the deformation, aging and damage and permanent deformation due to the train load and the natural environment, or due to the improvement of transport conditions (traffic, axle load, speed) , or due to quality, defects have been revealed after the opening of new rails, it must be conserved. 
The main task of railway maintenance are: 
① prevent the occurrence of abnormal equipment permanent deformation and a variety of diseases, slow aging equipment components to prevent abnormal wear and prolong life; 
② eliminate permanent deformation gauge and a variety of diseases, so keep equipment in good condition; 
③ on the line and buildings partial or full reinforcement periodic repairs or updates, and according to the transportation development or other objective need for renovation and transformation.
